Today I was scrolling through my newsfeed and came upon a video meme that read:
Oh my god, I hate my body, I’m never eating again…ten minutes later is seen overeating.
The post had hundreds of likes. Lots of laughs and comments agreeing to the point.
Let’s talk about it. The first rule of losing weight is to love yourself exactly as your are, in this present moment. Not as you will be when you “take the weight off” but rather, without change or exception.
This may seem counterintuitive, but stay with me. In order to follow a healthy regimen, the kind it takes to enjoy permanent weight loss, you have to like yourself well enough to stick to it. There it is, in a nutshell.
Now before you sigh in defeat because you’re silently thinking how much you hate your body, set the idea aside for a moment.
If this seems unattainable to you, know that it isn’t. It’s actually just a matter of simple habits. Simply, daily habits that once strung together, create a lifestyle. That lifestyle is what leads you to the health you seek.
Let’s say you aim to lose thirty pounds. You could try any number of extreme measures to ditch the thirty. Quite likely you’ll find something that works, and poof…you’re thirty pounds lighter. But here’s what they don’t tell you, any diet that is not sustainable for the rest of your life is temporary in nature. So after all that hard work and determination, those same thirty pounds will make their way back, and likely bring a few friends with them. Leaving you even more defeated than when you began.
Each day, your body will take in X number of calories and use X number of calories. If you’re in a surplus, you gain weight. If you’re in a deficiency, you lose weight. If you’re Even Steven, neither happens.
There is absolutely no way to avoid this truth. Fun fact. We are not addressing nutrients at this point.
Okay, so now what? Change one habit per day, for three months. Perhaps it is to swap out your current lunch for a salad. Maybe it’s something else. But let it be something you can stick to. After those three months, pick another habit, and so on. The key is to choose realistic habits.
Remember that ultimately, you are the author of your own health. The story you write will be the one you create. If it’s a healthier life filled with more energy and less doctors visits you seek, you can manifest that.
Is it easy? Not at first, but then it becomes second nature as time goes on. For those of you that have been following my blog, you know that I’ve been focusing on change. Change can be hard. That being said, health problems can be hard.
If you are ready to take one small step towards your goal, there is no better time than the present. Grab a stack of post it notes and each day write one nice thing to yourself and leave it where you can see it. Start there. Soon you’ll find that you love yourself too much to neglect your health for the sake of some salty fries.
The good news? In time you’ll wonder what was so good about those fries. Our tastes adjust to what we are used to. That’s why familiarity is one of the top reasons people eat what they eat. Change what is familiar and change your cravings.
What do you have to lose?
Flash back to junior high. The cool kids. Yeah, them…us….not us….not them. A time when being mean was cool. 😎
I remember even then wondering what was so cool about being cool. Wasn’t it better to be warm? Wiki defines Cool as moderately low temperature or alternatively an aesthetic of attitude, behavior, and style. Wait, what? What’s good about that? I challenge you to embrace your warmth and pass it on to all around you. Sprinkle that loving goodness all around your energetic sphere. Allow your sunshine to radiate endlessly.
There will be haters. That’s okay. Let them be where they are. It is not your place to judge them. We can radiate warmth to the coolest of haters. Perhaps they will feel your sunshine and quietly relish in it alongside you. Be the source of love, light and warmth. Let the cool kids stay where they are.
I’ve recently been studying the song “Sara” by Fleetwood Mac. One lyric really summoned my curiosity “starling flew for days”. After a bit of time on google, I came across the following meaning:
Starling teaches lessons of group etiquette, social standing and family relations and how you appear to the world in those relationships. He will show the nuances of the art of communication and vocalization which needs to be clear and expressive. It’s time to speak your voice. Starling can show how to be a fierce competitor to achieve goals along with using all the resources available to do such. Are you balancing your feminine/masculine qualities? It is time to accomplish tasks early and not wait until the last minute. Are you clinging to an idea, perception, people too tightly? Starling will teach much about sensitivity to others and working as a unity either in this world or another and will instill a sense of protection and hope. Credit

Okay, Folks. Are you ready to payoff your karmic debt? You know the one that keeps you in a place of indebted service to others? I’m not suggesting that being of service isn’t a great thing…because it is. But being indebted suggests that you have to do it. You have to care for others and put them before yourself, again and again. If this brings joy to your heart, by all means, keep at it!
But if you are growing weary of rushing in to save those around you, it’s time to ask yourself if you’ve paid off your karmic debt. This can be hard to reconcile, I know. Here’s some clues that you’re getting close, if not already there. You’ve learned what you needed to know, you’ve taught what you could teach and you’ve left the situation better than you found it. Moreover, if you can say that you’re ready to be debt free and simply seek permission to free yourself of servitude, simply release yourself from it!
Let today be the first day that you put your own happiness before all others. Teach them the art of self care. Remove the guilt that has piled up at your feet and kick it to the curb.
Let this next chapter of your life be one filled with joy and freedom. Welcome to being debt free!
